Orange Shirt Day is on Monday, September 30. To help commemorate this day, we are encouraging students to wear an orange shirt. All students will receive a sticker to wear on their shirts or hats for the day as well. Connect is also welcoming a guest speaker to speak to all students (in smaller groups to ensure age-appropriate content) on the morning of September 30. For more information about this initiative, you can visit http://www.orangeshirtday.org.
CIVIX and Vox Pop Labs, the creators of Vote Compass, are pleased to launch Vote Compass: Canada Youth Edition to help young Canadians discover their place within the political landscape.
This political spectrum survey invites students to consider their views on 30 political statements, tailored to a younger audience. Background information is available to provide context and/or help familiarize students with the different sides to the issues. I have generated a code for each of the classes, and I will distribute it to you in class. This will allow me to know who completed the exercise, as well as analytics about how the opinions of each class compare to those of the general population. The entire grade spent some time on Wednesday afternoon in each of the four grade 6 classrooms discussing various aspects of the upcoming Camp Chief Hector trip. Each teacher focused on a different aspect of camp and students recorded their top 3 "take aways" from each of the discussions. Feel free to have your child recap the discussions with you. Our plan is to have students reflect on these same aspects after camp.
